Created within the scope of the ERASMUS programme, Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are intensive courses that make use of innovative learning, teaching and training methodologies, with both on-site and online components. Students and teaching staff from higher education institutions from Member States of the European Union or third countries associated with the ERASMUS mobility programme can participate.
The first BIP to take place at the Polytechnic of Porto was organized by the School of Health. Titled “Preparing young undergraduate women for a research career in health sciences”, this programme was prepared by Female Faculty mainly for Female Students.
Students and professors from eight different nationalities had the opportunity to take part in this innovative program and contact with realities from various fields of Health such as laboratory sciences, rehabilitation, neurosciences or risk management and assessment. There was also room to explore the reality of a career in scientific areas where research is led by women – how to manage expectations, how to be resilient and persistent and what are the most appropriate tools to achieve expected results. Moreover, three visits to research centres were arranged to further enrich the experience of participants. The research units visited were one of our resident centres, CIR, and three research centres in Porto - i3S, INSA and CIIMAR.
The ultimate goal of these two weeks of hard work is to plan a scientific project, inspired by the different contributions of lecturers who participated in this programme.
This BIP includes 112 hours of work, divided into 70 hours of face-to-face contact sessions and 42 hours of autonomous work.
The quality of this program was due to the excellence of the ESS teaching staff team involved in its organization:
- Professor Andreia Sousa
- Professor Artemisa R. Dores
- Professor Matilde Rodrigues
- Professor Mónica Vieira
- Professor Rosário Martins
- Professor Sílvia Fernandes
Thank you to all professors, lecturers, researchers, institutions and students involved. Without you, we would not have managed to create and provide such an amazing experience.
