History

The School of Health (P. PORTO) is a school with a consolidated and recognized track record in teaching and research in Health Technologies and Sciences. Having been integrated into the Polytechnic of Porto (P. PORTO) in 2004, its historical roots go back a long way, to the Hospital Training Centers teaching in the areas of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologies.

In 1980, this teaching began at the Technical School of Health Services in Porto, still under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. With the technological development of healthcare, there was a need to create higher education in the areas of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologies. The school was renamed Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde do Porto (School of Health Technology), and this name was changed to Escola Superior de Saúde (School of Health) in 2016. In 2006, The School of Health| P. PORTO was formally recognized as an organic unit of the Polytechnic of Porto, and at that time offered 13 bachelor's degrees. 

Currently, The School of Health | P. PORTO is the largest Polytechnic Higher Education Institution in the area of Health in Portugal, and it is the third largest School in P. PORTO - the largest Polytechnic Higher Education Institution - having around 3,000 students in 12 Bachelor's Degrees, 14 Master's Degrees (one of which is an international master's degree), 8 Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTeSP's) and 3 Doctoral Programs in partnership with other HEIs. Dedicated to teaching, research and providing services to the community, it is endowed with statutory, pedagogical, scientific, cultural and administrative autonomy in its specific area of intervention and within the scope of its courses. The School of Health | P. PORTO also has a comprehensive training portfolio of varied, innovative and relevant postgraduate and continuing training courses, keeping up with the state of the art in the health field.

With 42 years of activity, The School of Health | P. PORTO is proud of its history and the high standards of teaching it has always emanated, projecting an even more promising future.
